The Central Doctrines of the Reformation

Reformation slogans with the common reference of
"alone". Intended to be considered together, "alone" in each instance regards only one aspect of soteriology (The doctrine of salvation). As such, these were intended to say: Salvation through grace alone by faith alone in Christ alone to the glory of God alone known through Scripture alone.

Sola Christos"Christ Alone". Doctrine that there is no salvation outside Jesus Christ.

Sola Fide"Faith Alone". Doctrine recognizing faith as the instrumental means of justification -and, that as a gift of God- rather than works.

"We have been justified by faith"  (Romans 5:1 )
"The righteousness which is by faith"  (Romans 9:30

Sola Gratia"Grace Alone".   Doctrine that salvation is unmerited and based on God's good pleasure.

Sola Scriptura"Scripture Alone".   Doctrine that recognizes the Bible as the rule for Christian faith and practice.

Soli Deo Gloria"Glory to God Alone".    Doctrine that no one or anything outside God is to receive credit for salvation.
